Constructing an Argument from Multiple Sources Essay
Constructing an Argument from Multiple Sources - Essay ExampleThe environment comprises of the settings and conditions where man, animals and plants operate. Because all person shares it, it is our obligation to ensure that it is safeguarded and maintained. Presently, the environment is threatened by human beings who live in it. Global warming is causing the polar ice caps to die hard risking the existence of the habitation present there. This means that people have to willingly opt to embrace a new lifestyle so that the environment rear end be preserved. For instance, people can endeavor to employ less energy conserve resources that are nonrenewable as well as minimize the contradict consequences that are already on earth. In his book dubbed, life after a year of not using toilet paper Colin Beavan supports this argument by revealing how he spent an entire year without having any impact on earth and living a life that is purely eco effective (Green parity bit 10). A no impact t ransition meant any transportation that employed fossil fuel powers like taxis, elevators, and subways could not be used. The main consequence that burning fossil fuels has on the environment is the greenhouse effect or global warming. Beavan argues in his book dubbed, no impact man, that during the combustion of these fuels, carbon dioxide is released in the atmosphere resulting in a number of crises in the environment. For instance, the burnt fossil, releases poisonous gases like sulphuric and carbonic acids which in turn damage the environment. Consequently, this makes the environment lay down acidic rain which damages the lives of both animals and life. These damaging carbon dioxide results block the proper release of the earths infrared radiation. Consequently, this leads to rapid heating and an sum up in climate change (Beavan 73). Furthermore, the fuels emitted can erode the ozone layer that safeguards the earth from the deadly sun radiation. Fossil wastes are

Analysis The lady with the petdog Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Analysis The lady with the petdog - Essay ExampleTheir love is under the test of rationality and the lens of morality. Chekhovs The Lady with the dearie Dog uses ambiguity, setting, characterization, and realism to suggest that love has no logic, explanation, and morality, but people continue to fight for it because it is the only thing that makes them truly happy. Love has no logic. Chekhov uses ambiguity in language to show that love does not make any sense. Gurov does not find his affairs satisfying in the long run. He meet knows that he attracts women enough for them to favor him, including sexually favoring him (Chekhov par.5). These sexual favors are short and sweet, until his heart chooses to favor someone forever. Favor is an ambiguous word, whose final interests are unclear. In the story, favor motivates two matrimonial people to prioritize their self-interests, to the risk of breaking the laws of God and man. One more example shows ambiguity. After making love, Anna fee ls sorry for the affair. Chekhov describes her as a Magdaleneby an old master (par.39), perhaps even worse because she is not a prostitute, but she has given her married body to another married person. Her monologue, however, bores Gurov he was irritated by her naive tone, by her repentance, so unexpected and out of place (Chekhov par.36). ... Aside from language, characterization enables Chekhov to demonstrate that people may be opposite in many ways, but love can still bind them. Gurov is old and a self-confessed womanizer, fleck Anna is young and inexperienced with affairs. They expect an unlikely pair, especially when they have some sense of fear for their spouses (Chekhov par.4). They fear them because they are with them, despite the absence of love. Furthermore, Gurov thinks that there is nothing special about him, while Anna finds him as the best kind of man. For Gurov, he is only an old man almost twice her age, but Anna sees him as kind, exceptional, high-minded (Chekhov par.58). Evidently, love has skewed their sound judgement of true identities. Their love blinded them of the ability to see each others worst faults. One of the greatest sources of the irrationality of their love is its depravity. Their affair is awry(p) but they want to continue anyway, even when at first, they are unsure of what they have. Anna becomes restless and cannot sleep (Chekhov par.52). These are signs of guilt. They are both married, but they are in love with each other, not their spouses. In addition, they are hesitant of what they have, until Anna leaves Gurov. When Anna sees dew on the grass (Chekhov par.49), it represents something new, the dawn of love. The dew is fresh and refreshing. Their love awakens their old grass. But the dew will fade at the light of day. The sun is their morality. Their dew is against this morality, and it is illogical to continue it. They are struggling to hide their love, when they can always end it to conclude their miseries (Chekhov par.52). They feel dread (Chekhov par.52) of beingness caught, being judged. Why suffer these complications? They

Entrepreneurship in Action Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Entrepreneurship in Action - Essay ExampleNeedless to say, entrepreneurship is a state of psyche (Bird, 1988, p. 444). As feelings and perspectives develop in the early age, school education can greatly contribute to fostering entrepreneurial mindsets, starting from primary school to the University aim (Boyd & Vozikis, 1994, p. 65). For this reasons authorities and educational institutions have taken the responsibility of ensuring that students learn about entrepreneurship in schools. Such education incorporates individuality and personal trait views. In addition, this entrepreneurial education combines skills, knowledge, perspectives and personal attributes in order to perform definite expert assignments. In reference to Kent (1990, p. 10), entrepreneurship education refers to training on the skills, attributes and competences required in entrepreneurship. This is a training process where students and learners commence by been keen and attentive. This assists the learners to appre hend different aspects of entrepreneurship. According to the BS2962 Entrepreneurship in Action module, the students finally set up their own enterprises after attaining knowledge on the required competences and skills needed for running and operating a business. In reference to the module, the aims of entrepreneurship education varies, though they all focus on enhancing entrepreneurial mindset, triggering entrepreneurial behavior, developing skills and competences required for entrepreneurship and preparing the student for his or her entrepreneurial endeavors. Nonetheless, one of the common objectives of the entrepreneurial education is to accelerate entrepreneurship in its numerous forms (Fayolle, 2010, p. 245). In this regard, relation of the orientation of diverse constructs, objectives and focus on entrepreneurship education shows two major points that need emphasis the learning results would be different if the whole training center on on cognitive training and it is imperati ve to broaden the viewpoints about the learning environment. Entrepreneurial education has numerous objectives and goals. Learning on entrepreneurship centers on the sagacity and watchfulness of an entrepreneur in coming up with original creative business ideas and formulating viable business plans. A training that focuses on the learning for entrepreneurship emphasizes on the capabilities and skills required. readying aimed at training through entrepreneurial didactics centers on increasing capabilities and aptitudes required to generate comprehension of facts and investments (Erickson, 2003, p. 108) In reference to Gatewood (2009, p. 206), it is not known whether people ar born entrepreneurs or not. For this reason, there have been arguments and discussions on whether the skills and competences of entrepreneurs can be taught. Debatably, at least some personal characteristics, competences and skills can be nurtured and trained in the entrepreneurs interplay with the environment, including the interplay with the educational system (Borch & Vizikis, 1994, p. 446). In my assumption, entrepreneurial behavior can be learnt and that, as such, it should be taught. Entrepreneurship education, however, requires thorough reflection on the connection between put through and theory and between learning and doing (Kent, 1990, p. 204). This is primarily because of the multifaceted nature of entrepreneurial phenomenon, which makes it difficult to encompass and thus to teach and learn. In

Fate and Destiny Essay Example for Free
Fate and Destiny EssayThe Epic of Sundiata is meaningless without the concepts of draw and quite a little. When the Mandinka poof receives the divine hunter at the royal court, and the hunter predicts that the kings marriage to an ugly woman would grant him a in good order king for a son the Mandinka king must honor the prognostic. It is for this reason that the king, before his death, gives to Sundiata his son born of an ugly woman a griot. When Sundiata is older, he too believes in the importance of harnessing powers of a supernatural nature (Niane). Prophecies are, of course, made through supernatural powers. Seeing that the kings of the Mandinka mass believe in supernatural powers, their subjects must also be believers in the same. Moreover, flock and destiny appear real to the Mandinka nation, which is the reason why the prophecy is honored by the king. But, even if most of the Mandinka mess do not believe in supernatural powers, the belief system of the king is e xpected to be superior to that of his people.Belief in prophecy entails that ones fate is inflexible, and there is vigor that one can do to change his or her destiny. Prophets are believed beca accustom they know the fate and destiny of others. By informing people roughly their respective fates and destinies, they save their people from cosmos misled. At the same time, however, the concepts of fate and destiny entail that the Mandinka king would have married an ugly woman, with or without the prophecy of the hunter. The king would have had Sundiata, too, regardless of the prophecy. The only useful part about the prophecy was that the king gifted Sundiata with a griot because he knew that Sundiata would be a mighty king in the future. Just as the Epic of Sundiata cannot be understood without reference to fate or destiny, Things F completely Apart focuses on a wiz and his community, unable to change circumstances in the face of destiny. Things Fall Apart makes repeated references to chi, a concept that refers to a personal deity that is available to all people to guide them to fulfill their individual destinies. It is impossible for a human being to struggle against the chi, or his or her spirit force. This is the reason why Okonkwo, a courageous and intelligent individual, cannot change his circumstances or that of his community even as things fall apart for everybody except the colonialists (Achebe). In other words, the human being is powerless against the decisions of the chi or his or her personal deity who establishes the fate and destiny of every soul. The personal deity of all people has determined that Okonkwo and his people would suffer, and there is nothing they can do about it (Achebe).Okonkwo is a distinguished leader of a colonisation in Nigeria. He is rich, powerful, brave as head as wise. He has worked hard to achieve his high status in his village. Thus, the village elders choose him to be the guardian of a boy named Ikemefuna, who has been made prisoner by Achebes tribe. Okonkwo must keep the boy with him until the Oracle decides otherwise (Achebe). This shows that man has no free will, and that, in fact, fate and destiny are determined by another. Human beings are not even allowed to make decisions by themselves. If they attempt to make decisions by themselves, they must be severely punished, as Okonkwo was. When the village elders decided that Ikemefuna must be killed, Okonkwo went against the advice of the oldest man of the village by killing the boy himself. Subsequently, things started to fall apart for Okonkwo. He accidentally killed another individual at a funeral ceremony. For this act he had to be sent into exile with his family for a period of seven years. After all, he had offended the deities by committing the murder (Achebe). When Okonkwo returned to his village, he struggled for his people against the colonialists. In the end, however, he had to kill himself (Achebe). The forces of change were too strong f or him to resist. This reveals that mans determination, intelligence, and courage have no power over destiny and fate. Even though I believe in fate and destiny, I do not agree with this grim vision of the same. Neither do I trust the fact that man has been rendered powerless by fate and destiny. In my understanding of these concepts, god, who is all-knowing, has written the fate and destiny of all people. His knowledge of all peoples past, present and future is their fate and destiny, in fact. At the same time, He has given unto human beings the power to make decisions for themselves. The Bible confirms this view. Although there is nothing that a human being can do to fight destiny and fate, individuals are free to use their intelligence in the best possible ways. Our use of intelligence in my belief is also determined by God. He allows some people to prosper at the expense of others. All the same, in the biblical sense, such circumstances are a trial from God. He cannot be blame d for giving one man a life of riches, happiness and relaxation while his brother is sad and living in a violent neighborhood. In the Biblical view, both men are loved by God. However, by severely testing the homeless man, He would manage the man to turn to Him in prayer. The rich man, on the other hand, is required to be of help to the poor man. If he does not help his brother, however, God would continue giving him opportunities to do so in future. In this view of fate and destiny, God also knows the people who would go to Heaven as opposed to those who would enter Hellfire for eternity. Even so, I know that people have free will to choose what they would like to do with themselves and where they would like to go. God does not stop us from using our minds to do as we please. But, as I have already mentioned, it is He who in the long run decides what we would think. So, while one man concentrates on spirituality, another spends his entire lifetime thinking about the theory of re lativity. It is our personal destiny to think, do, and wish as God pleases. Of course, my understanding of fate and destiny is not the same as that of the Mandinka king or the people of Okonkwo. I do not visit soothsayers, and neither would I believe in all of them. Furthermore, even if it is unfashionable in our times to believe in God and supernatural powers, I continue to believe in fate and destiny. Works Cited Achebe, C. Things Fall Apart. Public transport Essay Example for Free
Public enjoy EssayPublic transport can be described as a shared service of passenger transportation readily available for public use. Modes of public transport in many modern cities include trains and trams, buses, trolley buses, ferries and quick transit. Public transport is necessary to economic and well-disposed development, with easy movement of people, goods and services. Increased procedure of motor vehicles in the modern cities carries both economic and social costs evidenced by increased air befoulment. Air of poor quality can serious affect the health of the public and can go forth to premature deaths. Public transport is said to be the key of reducing air pollution in the urban cities in the following ways cut down emission of carbon monoxide, reduced emission of nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emission, reduced emission of the volatile organic compounds and minimized fossil fuel consumption. Studies shake off shown that mysterious vehicles, which are mainly petrol-powered, verbalise carbon monoxide, lead, benzene and lead which are detrimental to the air in our cities (European Environment Agency 2010). Still, due to the large number of this private vehicles, they are bound to emit this pollutants in high amounts compared to public transport. It is clear that, in order to reduce the air pollution and especially the minginess of carbon monoxide in our cities, there is need for people to rely such(prenominal) on public transport rather than the private vehicles. Nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emitted on the environment. Study conducted by the American enterprise institute and Brookings institution in 2002 showed out that the quantity of nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emitted by the private vehicles was about two-bagger the amount emitted by the public transport for every mile traveled by a passenger (European Environment Agency 2010).Use of public transport can reduce carbon footprint of an individual. Another study in the year 2005 showed that the use of public means rather than the private means could have reduced the carbon dioxide emission in the United States by 3. 9 million of metric tones. So it is much possible that, reducing air pollution in our cities can be achieved by depending to a greater extent on the public transport. On other organic volatile compounds, the same study showed that the private vehicles could emit 92 percent more organic volatile compounds than the public vehicles as compared to mile traveled by each passenger.Efforts of reducing air pollution in our cities should focus on how to minimize usage of private vehicles in transport and also encourage use of the public means in transport. The same studies by the same two institutes showed out that in United States, public transport only used half of the fuel which was required to fuel the private vehicles. The more fossil fuel is used, the more emission of pollutant air is likely to emit in the environment, so in order to reduce th e air pollution in our cities, there is need to encourage use of public transport.Public transport is very vital in our cities especially in achieving the global war on reducing air pollution which can result to global warming. Efforts need to be put in place to ensure that people use much the public means in most of their traveling because it will reduce air pollution in our cities as well as reducing the urban congestion of vehicles and also reduce the overdependence of energy imports.BibliographyEuropean Environment Agency, 2010, Sources of Air pollution, Viewed July 27, 2010 http//www. eea. europa. eu/publications/2599XXX/page010. html

Preferential Hiring in the North Essay Example for Free
Preferential Hiring in the North EssayInuit in the normality, specifically in Nunavut, have an agreement with the government that they receive special benefits to help with day-to-day problems because of what happened to their people in the past. It is common knowledge that when explorers and traders first went to the north, they mistreated the aboriginals up there. They introduce alcohol and tobacco, they forced them to become sedentary by killing off their sled dogs and setting up trading booths for fur trades and such, and they quickly do them become Europeanized. This is not a proud part of Canadian history, and there have been measures taken to try and make up for the wrongs that were done. One of these measures is discriminatory hiring for Inuit. Although preferential hiring may seem like a fair arrangement given all that has happened, it is incredibly unjust and creates unnecessary problems. It is a fact that in the north the government has to hire a certain percent of Inuit when they argon filling job positions.I do not agree with this because what ends up happening is that to be able to meet the agreed amount of beneficiaries hired, the government then has to employ people who may not have the qualifications necessary for the job, or who arent as trained and competent as other candidates. What also happens in umpteen cases is that the requirements necessary to apply for a position get watered down until they are simple comme il faut to target a larger crowd. This results in a slow-moving government with poor decision-making skills and no proficiency nor productivity. For example, a couple of geezerhood ago, in Iqaluit, there was a position as a secretary of a school that needed to be filled. However, there were no Inuit who employ that had enough qualifications for the job, so the school board then had to change the contract, saying that the minimum education requirement was a grade 10 education. A secretary of a school has many responsibi lities, and I feel that it is needless to say that a person working in a learning facility should have a minimum of a elevated school diploma. That example was not an uncommon occurrence, it happens far too regularly in the north. It is a huge part of the footing why there is no motivation for a higher education in the youth of the north. These individuals know that if they can at least graduate high school, then they are al just about guaranteed a job, and often a six digit salary (or very close toit). They become lazy, and do not wish to waste their duration going to get a post-secondary education when they can easily get a job without one. This leads to my next point. There are many people who apply for the government jobs who have all the necessary qualifications and have the proper training and experience for the job, who dont even get considered solely because of their nationality if they arent Inuit, they arent wanted. This is borderline racism. The most qualified person sh ould receive the job all other factors (within reason) should be irrelevant. It is unfair towards all those who take the time and spend their money going through university, to be overlooked because there was a beneficiary with a high school diploma who also applied for the job. My final point is that there is no reason whatsoever for an Inuit not to have the proper credentials for a job apart from pure laziness. They are given all the opportunities imaginable, and it is their own fault if they do not take them. There is no excuse anymore for them not to have an education, because the government pays for their full schooling. In fact, Inuit students get paid to go to university and other educational facilities. They are actually making money instead of going in to debt like most students. Therefore, one might wonder, why would someone not want to go to university and get a higher education if they are being paid for it? And the break up is because they do not need an education to g et well-respected and well-paid jobs. There are plenty of examples why preferential hiring for Inuit is in fact handicapping them instead of helping them. The power of the government in the north is nowhere near the same as the rest of Canada, and it is due to a lack of qualifications of those who are preferentially hired. By eliminating preferential hiring, you would be increasing motivation for a higher education and a better working society.
